In the US, vermouth is pronounced vərˈmo͞oTH

Historically, there have been two main types of vermouth: sweet and dry.

The labels on the bottle have been Red for the Sweet Vermouth, and Green for the Dry Vermouth. You can remember this by thinking that in the alphabet:

• R(ed)s is close to S(weet) Red-Sweet R-S
• G(reen) is close to D(ry) Green-Dry G-D
• ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

Responding to consumer demand and competition, vermouth manufacturers have created additional styles, including:

• extra-dry white
• sweet white (blanc or bianco)
• red (rosso)
• amber (ambre)
• rosé
